May 2011: Opening of the New Garston Treatment Centre

The new treatment centre has replaced the earlier Sir Alfred Jones Memorial Hospital. This was a much loved building and the Garston Historical Society sought to preserve some aspects of the old building. In discussion with the Liverpool Primary Care Trust, it was agreed to retain the original entrance portico in the new Sir Alfred Jones garden. The herb garden was designed as a reminder of the fact that Sir Alfred Jones, founder of the Garston Hospital, also founded the Liverpool School of Tropical medicine. The Society was also involved in selecting items for the new time capsule mounted beneath the resited portico.
